die-cutting technology

Perfectly creased. With the crease-plate-die variations from Marbach.

We have special tool solutions for the tobacco industry in our portfolio. Because special requirements demand special solutions. The two Marbach technologies are called crease-plate-die|+ and crease-plate-die|rc. These not only ensure the best creasing results but also the highest productivity during die-cutting and the subsequent packaging process.

Markus Stegmann, Tobacco Industry Manager at Marbach: “Whether the crease-plate-die|+ or the crease-plate-die|rc is used depends on the design of the blank to be die-cut. But also on whether the die-cutting is done inline or offline.”

The crease-plate-die|+ is always used when packaging with a hinge-lid or bevel-edge design is to be produced. With the crease-plate-die|+ technology, creasing is done with a defined final dimension. This means that the make-ready can be carried out extremely precisely and the creasing is very even. This increases the quality of the packaging blanks and the speeds at which they are packed.

The crease-plate-die|rc is a solution specifically for cigarette packaging in a round corner design. The special effect of round corner packaging is created by several creases being very close together on the packaging blank. This is a very eye-catching design element. However, these closely spaced creases place high technical demands on a cutting-die. For example, round corner creases exert completely different forces on the paperboard than standard creases. To control these, the make-ready of the cross creases can be decoupled from the round corner creases of the crease-plate-die with the crease-plate-die|rc.

Stegmann continues: “This decoupling in the case of the crease-plate-die|rc ensures that the make-ready can be carried out very precisely. The result is high-quality blanks that meet the creasing specifications required by the end customer. Incidentally, due to the wide range of setting options on the creasing unit, this also applies to different types of cardboard and variations in cardboard quality.”

The crease-plate-die solutions stand for high-quality blanks that meet the packaging quality and packaging speed requirements of cigarette manufacturers.

But crease plate technology is not only used in the tobacco industry but also in the die-cutting of folding boxes where particularly high demands are placed on creasing.
